Educational Programs

If you are looking for a professional career where you can be your own boss, work with people, and show your style, Associated Barber College of San Diego is the place to start. We offer a few comprehensive programs that prepare you to become a licensed barber and/or cosmetology. Our goal at Associated Barber College of San Diego is to provide you with techniques and methods that, with practice, you will gradually master on your way to a new career in the hair industry. You will be introduced to a new world of creative expression, technical skills, and human relation techniques that will continually evolve as you spend time working in the profession.

Our school offers two courses of Barber Instruction that include basic training needed to pass the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology examination. One course is for those with little or no experience in barbering and the other course is for those who have experience and are licensed by the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.

COURSE OF STUDY

The course of study for students enrolled in the Barbering course shall consist of fifteen hundred (1500), twelve hundred (1200) or one thousand (1000) clock hours of theory instruction and practical operations covering all practices constituting the art of barbering pursuant to Section 7316 of the Barbering and Cosmetology Act. For the purpose of this section, theory instruction shall mean instruction by demonstration, lecture, classroom participation or examination; practical operation shall mean the actual performance by the student of a complete service on another person or mannequin. Our institution uses direct method of instruction.

The course of study for the Barbering course is practical training and theoretical instruction. The barbering course of study is designed to prepare students for the state licensing examination and for profitable employment as a barber. The difference in the hours of the courses is all reflective of the practical practice on the practical floor.

** HOURS EXCEED STATE REQUIREMENTS

Our school offers four programs of Barber Instruction for men and women that include basic and extended training needed to pass the Board of Barbering examination. Our Barber programs are for students with little or no education in barbering. Our Barber programs will give the student the opportunity to take extended classes to increase their skills for optimal employment.

It is our personal family goal to make sure that each student maximizes their skills for a very rewarding career. Our Alumni are very involved in our curriculum and our programs so that each student has the skills necessary for optimal potential for employment. Since success is defined by each individual, we interview each potential student to find the perfect program for all students. It is not a “one-size fits all” situation for our school. BARBERING ~ 1500 CLOCK HOURS (Hours exceed State Requirements)

For students enrolled in the Barbering 1500 Clock Hours program it consists of fifteen hundred (1,500) clock hours of technical instruction and practical operations covering all practices and constituting the art of barbering. Educational Goals: The Barbering 1500 clock hours program is designed to prepare students for the state licensing examination and for profitable employment as a California licensed barber. This course also offers 500 hours of extended classes to include practical exercises in the scope of barbering (haircutting, coloring, perming, shaving, customer service, etc.)

 

BARBERING ~ 1200 CLOCK HOURS 

(Hours exceed State Requirements)

For students enrolled in the Barbering 1200 Clock Hours program it consists of twelve hundred (1,200) clock hours of technical instruction and practical operations covering all practices and constituting the art of barbering. Educational Goals: The Barbering 1200 clock hours program is designed to prepare students for the state licensing examination and for profitable employment as a California licensed barber. This course also offers 200 hours of extended classes to include practical exercises in the scope of barbering (haircutting, coloring, perming, shaving, customer service, etc.)

 

BARBERING ~ 1000 CLOCK HOURS

For students enrolled in the Barbering 1000 Clock Hours program it consists of one thousand (1,000) clock hours of technical instruction and practical operations covering all practices and constituting the art of barbering. Educational Goals: The Barbering 1000 clock hour program is designed to prepare students for the state licensing examination and for employment as a California licensed barber. This course offers the minimum requirements set by the state of California.

 

BARBER CROSSOVER ~ 400 CLOCK HOURS

(Hours exceed State Requirements). California Cosmetology License or Proof of Training Required

For students enrolled in the Barber Crossover program it consists of four hundred (400) clock hours of technical instruction and practical operations to provide barber training not a part of the required training or practice of a cosmetologist. Educational Goals: The Barber Crossover program is designed to prepare students for the state licensing examination and for profitable employment as a California licensed barber.

COSMETOLOGY PROGRAMS

Our Cosmetology classes will be set apart from others by having small classes and focusing on skills that prepare the graduate for immediate employment.  We look forward to teaching Cosmetology with a Barber flair.

Educational Goals: The Cosmetology 1500 clock hours program is designed to prepare students for the state licensing examination and for profitable employment as a California licensed cosmetologist. This course also offers 500 hours of extended classes to include practical exercises in the scope of cosmetology (haircutting, coloring, perming, nails, skin, customer service, etc.)

 

COSMETOLOGY ~ 1000 CLOCK HOURS

For students enrolled in the Cosmetology 1000 Clock Hours program it consists of one thousand (1,000) clock hours of technical instruction and practical operations covering all practices and constituting the art of cosmetology. Educational Goals: The Cosmetology 1000 clock hours program is designed to prepare students for the state licensing examination and for employment as a California licensed cosmetologist. This course offers the minimum requirements set by the state of California.
